In a shocking case of cyber defamation, Chandiprasad Mohapatra alias Papi was arrested on Thursday for creating a fake Instagram ID to malign a student leader.
The accused, a resident of Naraj under Barang police limits on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, allegedly used abusive language and had circulated an edited audio clip to destroy the complainant student leader’s social reputation.

According to police sources, the motive behind the act was rooted in prior enmity. The accused allegedly used a fabricated Instagram profile to post false and offensive content, including an edited audio that went viral on social media.
The student leader, whose image and character were targeted, filed a complaint with the Cyber Police and also approached Khandagiri Police Station. Based on the FIR and a case (No.-640/2025) registered under the IT Act, police launched a probe and traced the accused to Kalinga Nagar.
Following the arrest, digital devices used in the crime were seized by the investigating team. The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the IT Act and was produced in court later in the day.
No comments were received from the the cyber police or the student leader in this regard.
Wirth mentioning, earlier in another incident, a fraudster youth was arrested by police after attempting to enter Lok Seva Bhawan using a fake identity card on July 24.
Accused Sandeep Pradhan, a resident of Balugaon, had attempted to bypass the security check at the State’s power corridor at around 3.40 PM using a counterfeit I-card.
Sandeep’s dubious actions raised suspicions, leading to his arrest by the Capital Police.
“We doubted the man when he attempted to enter through Gate No. 5. He showed a pass, but on being detained for questioning, he tried to flee from the spot. The accused was overpowered and nabbed,” Bhubaneswar Zone-1 ACP, Ramesh Bisoi, had stated.
