Fed up with frequent undeclared power cuts, irate locals of the Parjang area in Dhenkanal gheraoed the electricity office and locked it on Thursday.

They alleged that they have been forced to live with unscheduled power cuts. Though they have been taking up the issue with the local electricity department on different occasions for the last two months, the problem is yet to be addressed.

The villagers’ pent-up anger burst forth on Thursday when they gheraoed the electricity office and locked it.

“If no permanent solution is found, we will keep the office locked till the visit of the executive officer. In the coming days, we will even resort to agitation, laying siege to the national highway,” said Subrat Parida, a Parjang resident.

No reaction was received from the electricity department or police in this regard.
