Odisha Vigilance seizes over Rs 2 lakh cash from Junior Engineer’s vehicle
A Junior Engineer (JE) from the Rural Development (RD) Division, Jajpur, was intercepted on Friday by Odisha Vigilance, while he was carrying over Rs 2.03 lakh suspected ill-gotten cash.
The accused, Bhimasen Maharana, JE of RD Division, Jaraka, Kuakhia Section in Jajpur, was stopped on National Highway-16 near Tangi Toll Gate, Cuttack, while en route to his native village in Bentapura Sasan of Khordha district, by his personal car (Registration No. OD-02 T-8814).
Acting on credible information regarding the collection of bribe money from contractors, the Vigilance team intercepted him leading to the recovery of Rs 2,03,940 in cash.

As Maharana failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the money in his possession, the cash along with his vehicle was seized on the spot, official sources informed.
Following the interception, Odisha Vigilance initiated searches at three locations linked to Maharana to investigate the case from Disproportionate Assets (DA) angle.
The investigation is underway, with Vigilance sleuths questioning the accused to ascertain the source of the seized money. Further details on the case are awaited as the Vigilance Department continues its probe.
