Odisha is likely to witness light rainfall on February 19 and 20, with thunderstorms and lightning in some areas, stated the latest forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The Weather Department said that moderate to light rain on February 19 is expected in 10 districts including Sundargarh, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Kendrapara.
On February 20, isolated rainfall is likely to continue in the above ten districts along with Sambalpur, Jhasuguda, Ganjam, Gajapati, and Rayagada districts. Further, on the day following it, most places in coastal Odisha may experience isolated rainfall whereas on the 22nd, wet conditions may prevail in the northern part of the state.
The forecast also added that thunderstorms with lightning may occur in the Deogarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Kendrapara districts while other places are expected to remain dry.
The change in weather comes amid rising temperatures across most places in the state. On Sunday, Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 33.8 degrees Celsius at noon whereas the minimum temperature was 17.4 degrees Celsius.
In neighbouring Cuttack, the mercury hit the maximum of 31.4 degrees Celsius today but slipped to chilling lows at night. Similar trends continued across Odisha but the IMD maintained that a gradual rise of at least 2 to 3 degrees Celsius will be observed in the next three days with no large change expected thereafter.

The large difference between minimum and maximum temperatures may soon give way to summer heat although no forecast for the same has been released by the IMD so far.
