Odisha's Similipal gets Royal Bengal Tiger from Maharashtra as its new guest

In a piece of good news for animal lovers, a Royal Bengal Tiger from Maharashtra has reached Similipal Tiger Reserve in Mayurbhanj district. 

As per reports, a special team along with the big cat reached Similipal Tiger Reserve on Sunday. With an aim to increase the tiger population at the reserve, the tiger has been translocated from Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra. The wild animal will be released in the core area of the reserve, it was learnt. 

Notably, the Odisha government had earlier written to the National Tiger Conservation Authority to consider translocation of tigers to Similipal. Last week, a special team comprising Similipal Director, Assistant Director, veterinary doctors, and a rapid response team flew to Maharashtra to bring the tiger from Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve.

If reports are to be believed, Odisha plans to bring five tigers, three for Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary in the Bargarh district and two for Similipal Tiger Reserve, as a part of the big cat relocation project. The tigers will be brought from Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra for this purpose.
