Students enrolled in nursing technology courses at Maharaja Sriram Chandra Bhanja Deo University (MSCBU) at Baripada in Mayurbhanj district are in deep distress as their exams haven’t been conducted even after two years.

With careers on hold, the girl students now threaten self-immolation unless results are out or certificates issued, sources said on Sunday.

According to the sources, the students of nursing-related programs under MSCBU are in exam crisis. Despite completing their three-year Bachelor’s courses over two years ago, no examinations have been held, and no results or certificates have been released, causing intense frustration among students.

More than 20 students from various nursing colleges in Baripada, pursuing B.Sc courses in Medical Radiology, Laboratory Technology, and Optometry, have confronted the university’s Controller of Examinations, demanding immediate action.

The delay has severely impacted their job prospects, with some stating they have already missed out on government recruitment.

In an emotional appeal, the students pleaded with the varsity authorities, saying, “Please conduct the exams or give us certificates. Otherwise, we will be compelled to take extreme steps and end our lives.” Some even warned of self-immolation if no solution is offered.

The controller admitted responsibility, stating, “We are at fault. The process was delayed because we couldn’t prepare the question papers.” The reason, according to him, was the lack of cooperation from affiliated medical colleges, as no faculty came forward to draft exam papers.

The senior official has promised that all pending exams will be conducted within the next two months, but students remain sceptical. “If nothing could be done in two years, how will it happen in two months?” questioned the protesting students.

The situation highlights a deep administrative failure at the university level and raises serious questions about the accountability of institutions responsible for shaping the future of the youngsters.

“I had contacted some persons to set the question papers, but they did not agree to do it. Even the nearest medical college has no such department to carry out the task. That is the main reason behind the unusual delay,” the MSCBU Controller of Examinations, Subrat Kumar Rana, stated to OTV when contacted.
