A minor girl from Nathuabara village, Jajpur, allegedly sedated her family and eloped with her boyfriend. Five family members are hospitalised due to critical illness. Kuakhia Police have initiated a manhunt and a detailed probe into the allegations.

A minor girl allegedly drugged five members of her family, including her parents, and eloped with her boyfriend by taking advantage of their unconsciousness in Jajpur district, on Thursday.

Influenced by her partner, the teenager laced food with sedatives which led to her family members falling critically ill. The five are undergoing treatment in a nearby hospital.

According to sources, the girl’s father from Nathuabara village under Kuakhia Police limits, along with four other family members, is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Jajpur. Following the incident, local police have initiated a detailed probe to locate the teenager and her male companion and the manhunt is still underway.

The affected family members, including the parents of the girl, suffered severe illness post the consumption of the sedated food, necessitating immediate medical attention.

Kuakhia Police continue efforts to unravel the sequence of events surrounding the case.

“The girl’s male partner came to our house on a vehicle. Both had previously hatched a plan to elope and accordingly the minor sedated her family,” a relative of the girl stated.

“The minor had gone to her school yesterday when the couple met at a place. As per the plan, the boy handed over sedatives to her to feed her family,” the relative added.
