In a shocking incident, a medical staff allegedly attempted to outrage the modesty of a minor girl inside the lift of the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) on Thursday night.
The accused has been identified as Pratap Nayak, a contractual employee of the hospital.
As per reports, the minor victim, who is the daughter of a patient getting treatment at the Nayagarh DHH, had gone to fetch medicine last night. However, Pratap, who was also in the same lift with the girl, allegedly misbehaved with her and tried to outrage her modesty.
The girl was reportedly rescued from the lift in an unconscious state and sent for treatment.
Following the incident, the father of the girl filed a complaint at Nayagarh Police Station. The police launched a probe in this connection after detaining Pratap for questioning.
Asked about the incident, Nayagarh CDMO Umakanta Panda said, “He (Pratap) is a medical sub-staff. It means he is not recruited through regular recruitment process. He has done something to the girl in the lift, because of which the girl has gone into a shock. She is scared now. Otherwise, her physical condition is stable.”
BJP leader, Pratyusha Rajeswari Devi, who was also at the hospital to meet the girl said, “Nobody seems safe here. The way a minor girl had to suffer such an ordeal, the government needs to introspect on its promises. It has become so much important to improve the law and order situation in Nayagarh.”
