Odisha launches 'Gramodaya' for overall development of 10 LWE-affected districts

The Odisha government has launched the Gramodaya programme to promote development in 583 villages across 10 LWE-affected districts, including Bargarh and Balangir. Chief Minister Mohan Majhi announced the initiative at a meeting chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah. A state-level committee led by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja will oversee it, with district and block committees ensuring local implementation.

The Odisha government launched Gramodaya, a special programme aims at promoting overall development of the people in 10 Left Wing Extremism (LWE) affected districts in the State.

According to sources, the initiative will cover 583 villages of 10-LWE affected districts- Bargarh, Balangir, Boudh, Kalahandi, 
Kandhamal, Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Nuapada and Rayagada.

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi announced the initiative during the meeting of the chief ministers of LWE-affected states chaired by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Monday.

Under the initiative, the government constituted a 17-member state-level monitoring committee. While the Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja is made chairman, secretaries of other departments will be the members of the state-level committee which will ensure the proper execution of the programme.

Similarly at the district level, the committee will be headed by the district collector with district-level officials as its members. At the block level, the committee will consist of block-level officials and will be headed by the BDO.

The initiative was notified by the Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Department on Tuesday.
