A group of students from Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Tarbha in Sonepur district, have raised serious allegations of physical and mental abuse at their new school in Jharkhand, following migration under the Navodaya Vidyalaya scheme. In a video, the students have urged authorities to bring them back to their home school.

Reports stated that as per official migration norms, ten students from Class IX were transferred from JNV Tarbha to the Navodaya Vidyalaya in Deoghar, Jharkhand.

However, the students claim that ever since their arrival, they have been subjected to harassment by senior students. Allegations include physical assault, threats, and repeated instances of psychological abuse.

Despite reportedly informing school authorities at the Deoghar campus, the students allege that no concrete action was taken. In desperation, they recorded a video appeal, describing their ordeal and requesting urgent intervention to be repatriated to their original school in Odisha.

Parents And Local Officials Step In

Parents of the affected children expressed anguish over the safety of their wards. They called upon the school administration and the Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) to take immediate corrective action.

“For the first week, we thought that his complaints were because he was still adjusting to the new campus. Later, we learned that all the kids had settled in happily. But, from the 10th of the month, he alleged physical abuse and threats from students there. We rushed to Tarbha and informed the Principal,” said Dasarathi Naik, a parent.

The Principal of JNV Tarbha, NK Shamkuar, confirmed that the school has received reports of the students' distress.

“A total of 21 students were selected this year, out of which 20 have already moved to Deogarh. I received reports of the students being harassed. I reached out to JNV Deogarh’s Principal, and she conducted an inquiry. The allegations were true, and 4 students involved in the abuse were suspended,” informed NK Shamkuar.

He also stated that, acting on requests from parents, an official communication has been sent to the NVS regional authorities. The school awaits further instructions on repatriating the students.

Meanwhile, the incident has triggered concerns over the execution of the migration policy under the Navodaya system, which aims to promote national integration by sending Class IX students to other states.
