According to eyewitnesses, the accused, identified as Sheikh Amjad from Cuttack’s Buxi Bazaar, was seen conversing with his wife by the roadside, apparently trying to resolve a dispute. When the woman reportedly disagreed with him, Amjad suddenly drew a sharp knife from his pant pocket and slit her throat in broad daylight.
The victim woman, bleeding profusely, was immediately rescued by some locals and her family members, who rushed her to Balasore district headquarters hospital (DHH) in critical condition. As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack for advanced treatment.
Locals managed to overpower the accused and handed him over to Town Police. Preliminary reports suggest that the woman had been living separately in rented accommodation in the locality and had strained ties with Amjad.
Police have detained Amjad and are interrogating him. Legal proceedings are underway.
No comments were received from the victim woman or local police in this regard.
