The Commissionerate Police from Bhubaneswar has picked up a groom from the middle of his marriage on charges of cheating another girl on the pretext of marriage. The incident has been reported from Beherapalli village under Bhatli police station in Bargarh district.
The groom has been identified as Ajit Kumar Bhoi of Parjang area in Dhenkanal.
According to sources, a girl has accused Ajit of cheating on the pretext of marriage and lodged a complaint with Mahila Police Station in Bhubaneswar.
Based on the complaint lodged by the victim, a team of Bhatli and Commissionerate Police raided the marriage venue and picked up Ajit soon after the ‘Batabarana’ ritual.
The police also seized a gold chain, ring and a watch from the groom’s possession and handed them to the bride’s family before taking him to Bhubaneswar. The bride’s family has reportedly bought a car to give it as dowry to Ajit.
Meanwhile, the police have forwarded the groom to court following a medical examination.
