In a significant move, the Odisha government has decided to extend financial support for chariot construction and celebration of Rath Yatra at different places across the State. Financial assistance for these traditional events will be provided through the Law Department, said Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Friday.

The funding aims to bolster the festivities associated with Rath Yatra, especially those Jagannath temples which are under the administration of the Endowment Commission.
Numerous applications received
Minister Harichandan informed that the State government has already received numerous applications for financial assistance, and is keen to consider additional requests from those yet to submit. Fresh applications in this regard will also be considered, he asserted.
“We are trying to extend financial support to the prominent Rath Yatra celebrations across Odisha, on behalf of the State government. Assistance from the Law Department is on the anvil. We are finding ways to assist the temples from where we have already received applications, including those from which we have not yet received,” the Minister stated.
“Meeting the expenses of chariot construction and conducting Rath Yatra is a matter of big concern in several temples. Keeping this in mind, we have plans to at least assist the temples coming under the purview of the Endowment Commission,” the Law Minister expressed.
“We will certainly extend financial support for the festivities,” the Minister added.
Earlier in the day, bringing good news for culture enthusiasts in the State and devotees of Lord Jagannath, the Odisha government decided to rehabilitate the mutts demolished on the pretext of the Srimandir Parikrama project in Puri during the previous government.

As many as 19 mutts in the pilgrimage town will be rehabilitated, and the process in this regard has already started, the Law Minister informed while speaking to the media.
