The Odisha government has decided to extend the assessment period for crop damage caused by recent unseasonal heavy rains.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday announced that the deadline for farmers to file their applications to report losses has been extended by one day, now closing tomorrow evening rather than today as initially planned.
The original schedule intended for the crop damage assessment process was to be finished by December 30. However, the government is preparing to extend this timeline if necessary, a decision Chief Minister Majhi has indicated might support an accurate and thorough evaluation of the losses.

Earlier on the day, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi along with Deputy Chief Ministers Pravati Parida and Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, along with other cabinet ministers undertook an on-ground review to assess the extent of crop damage across the State.
Farmers have appealed to the Chief Minister to extend the timeframe for applications, a request to which he has favourably responded. CM Majhi has assured that compensation will be provided following a precise assessment. The government is also exploring different support measures for those farmers who are without insurance coverage.
Notably, during the spot visits, CM Majhi interacted with the farmers and assured all possible assistance to them at the earliest.
