In a major relief for the farmers of Odisha, the registration deadline for the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana for the Kharif season has been extended till August 31.

The extension applies to both loanee and non-loanee farmers.

The decision comes after the Central Government approved the Odisha government’s proposal to extend the cut-off date. Agriculture Department principal secretary, Arabinda Padhee confirmed the development through a post on X.

As per the revised schedule, farmer registrations will also be carried out on Sundays and holidays to facilitate wider participation. The registration counters will remain open from 8 am to 8 pm daily.

The deadline was earlier set to expire on August 20. The Cooperation Department decided to extend it to ensure that more farmers could enroll under the scheme and secure their crops against possible losses due to natural calamities.

The PMFBY offers financial protection to farmers in the event of crop loss or damage due to unforeseen weather events, pests, or diseases. Authorities have urged farmers to take advantage of the extended deadline to safeguard their produce this season.
