The Odisha government has approved a major road infrastructure project that will cut travel time between Pipili and Konark from nearly 90 minutes to just 30 minutes.

The greenfield corridor plan was finalised on Friday during a high-level review of road connectivity in Puri district. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida and Law, Works and Excise Minister Prithviraj Harichandan.

40-Km Four-Lane Road Proposed

According to sources, the corridor will span 40 kilometres with a proposed width of 200 feet and is planned as a four-lane highway. Notably, vehicles will be able to move at speeds of up to 100 kilometres per hour.

During the review meeting, the Deputy CM stated that design work has been initiated, and land acquisition will begin once clearances are in place.

The existing Pipili–Konark road, which currently sees heavy traffic during tourist seasons, will also be widened from seven to ten metres to complement the new highway. Both projects are intended to ease congestion, improve connectivity to Konark’s Sun Temple, and boost the overall road network in the region.

In the Nimapara constituency, a four-lane road has been planned from Charichhak to Astarang, while another four-lane link will be developed between Jalarpur and Charichhak.
