A major mishap was averted in Bhadrak district on Tuesday when the stage prepared for an official event collapsed due to incessant rainfall. Odisha Governor Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati, who is on a two-day visit to Bhadrak, had only moments earlier stepped off the platform along with other dignitaries. Shortly after their departure, the rear portion of the stage caved in.

As part of his visit, the Governor inspected the Women Producer Groups and the Industrial Park at Kadabarang. He was accompanied by the Bhadrak District Collector, the local MLA, the Higher Education Minister, and the DIG (Eastern Range), all of whom were present on the stage during the programme.

Eyewitnesses reported that heavy rain had begun during the meeting. Organisers quickly facilitated the Governor and other guests’ exit from the dais to the office of the Women’s Federation. Within minutes of their departure, the stage partially collapsed, sparking concern but averting what could have been a serious accident.

Relief and Reactions

Though the incident caused alarm among the public and officials, no one was injured. Authorities have assured that safety protocols for such events will be reviewed to prevent similar incidents in the future.
