Odisha gets approval for 200 more MBBS seats in 2 new govt medical colleges

As per the approval, 100 seats have been sanctioned for the Government Medical College, Phulbani, and another 100 seats for the Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Government Medical College in Talcher. Academic sessions at both institutions will commence from the 2025–26 academic year.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 200 additional MBBS seats for two government medical colleges in Odisha

As per the approval, 100 seats have been sanctioned for the Government Medical College, Phulbani, and another 100 seats for the Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Government Medical College in Talcher. Academic sessions at both institutions will commence from the 2025–26 academic year.

Welcoming the approval, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi said that Odisha has achieved another milestone in the field of medical education. He added that with this, an additional 200 students from Odisha will now be able to pursue medical education each year starting from the current academic session.

CM Majhi further stated that since the formation of the new government, continuous efforts have been made to strengthen healthcare services and medical education in the state. The recent approval from the NMC is a recognition of these efforts, he said.

Earlier last month, Odisha Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling had written a letter to Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda seeking his urgent intervention regarding the grant of Letters of Permission ( LoPs) for the admission of 100 MBBS students at Pabitra Mohan Pradhan Government Medical College at Talcher and Government Medical College Phulbani for the Academic Year 2025-26 under Odisha University of Health Science.
