Though the water level of Subarnarekha river is slowly decreasing and currently flowing below the danger mark, flood-hit regions in Balasore continue to suffer. The situation remains grim as the misery of the affected people is yet to ease, with more than 70 villages still under water.
In Bhograi block, 30 villages across 15 panchayats are waterlogged. Badamandaruni village in this block is among the worst affected, where all paddy fields remain submerged. Locals report that all trees in the area have rotted due to prolonged waterlogging. Farmers have shared that once the floodwater recedes, they will prepare their fields again and resume cultivation.
Despite the river showing signs of receding, areas along Subarnarekha continue to experience its impact. Daily life remains paralysed in many regions. Transportation is heavily affected as several roads are submerged, making access to these areas extremely difficult.
Panchayats like Kusuda, Gabaga, and Manu Nagar in Bhograi block are completely cut off from the outer world. Around four feet of water is flowing over the roads in these areas. As a result, local residents have resorted to using country boats for their daily commuting needs.
