Odisha Congress likely to get new chief in 2025 beginning

The search for a new president of the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), a position left vacant since July 21, 2024, is anticipated to conclude with an appointment at the beginning of the New Year, senior Congress leader Mohammed Moquim said on Tuesday.

The Congress leader expected a fresh timeline and clarified that a selection would lean towards leaders with popular appeal. The process would remain free from lobbying.

Reports related to the PCC presidency have been forwarded to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in New Delhi, indicating the final decision rests with them.

Moquim emphasised that frequent visits to Delhi should not be considered indicative of the selection outcome. Another senior leader Niranjan Patnaik, while not a contender for the presidency, also shared his insights on the selection process.

“New Delhi (AICC) has already started the process and we hope that Odisha will get a new steersman of Congress in the initial days of the New Year. Under the new leadership, Congress will begin new programmes in the days ahead and will become stronger,” Moquim stated.

“They (AICC) also feel that no one should be selected under pressure or by any lobby. Tara Babu (Tara Prasad Bahinipati) is a senior leader and he frequently visits Delhi. He might be knowing, what he has said. Hence, I would not like to comment on his remarks,” Congress leader Moquim stated.

“They (AICC) are doing their work in their line. Hence, leaders from Odisha going or not going to New Delhi would not impact their working,” the Congress leader asserted.
