In a significant move to improve public infrastructure and essential services, the Odisha Cabinet on Wednesday approved seven major proposals, including new nursing colleges, model mandi development, and 24x7 water supplies in Sambalpur. The decisions aim to enhance governance and living standards across the State.

Among the approved plans is the establishment of eight new government nursing colleges to address the growing demand for trained healthcare professionals.
The Cooperation Department will convert 38 existing mandis (agricultural markets) into model mandis to streamline agricultural trade and benefit farmers. A dedicated directorate will be formed for the better management of State museums.
In a major urban development initiative, the Cabinet approved a 24x7 drinking water supply project for Sambalpur city. The plan is expected to ensure consistent and clean water access to residents.
Additionally, 110 urban local bodies (ULBs) will receive energy-efficient LED streetlights. The total cost of this street-lighting project is estimated at Rs 350.04 crore, according to Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, who briefed the media after the key meeting.
These proposals reflect the State government’s emphasis on healthcare, rural development, urban infrastructure, and energy efficiency, promising long-term benefits for the people of Odisha, an Information & Public Relations Department press release stated.
The 24th meeting of the Odisha Cabinet was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at the Conference Hall of Lok Seva Bhawan.
Approvals were given to one proposal each from the Odia Language, Literature & Culture Department, Cooperation Department, and Finance Department; two proposals from the Housing & Urban Development Department; and one each from the Commerce & Transport Department and the Health & Family Welfare Department.
