The Odisha unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to unveil its new state president shortly. The party is also discussing to pick chairman of different government bodies in the State, BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh said on Wednesday.

Current deliberations are taking place in Bhubaneswar, where leading figures in the party are gathered.

According to sources, the key meeting is going on at the residence of Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo. Present at the discussions are Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, state president Manmohan Samal, state in-charge Vijay Pal Singh Tomar, and the National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, including a few other senior party functionaries.

Focus in the key meeting is primarily on reaching a consensus regarding the appointments in various corporations, commissions, and boards.

“Everything is being carried out as per specific process. Odisha BJP will soon get a newly-appointed party chief. The electoral process is underway across the country and a new president will be appointed in Odisha,” senior BJP leader Chugh said to mediapersons.

“Bharatiya Janata Party is a party that works relentlessly. We do not work only during or before an election; rather, we work throughout a year. We are always engaged in working for welfare of people and the country,” the National General Secretary stated.

“BJP is a cadre-based party, where a worker puts in efforts for years. This is why working in the party is a mission that needs dedication,” Chugh added.

Among the frontrunners for the position is Manmohan Samal, who is expected to continue in his role. Discussions are going on about other candidates such as former president Samir Mohanty, former Union Minister Bishweswar Tudu and a few others.

The Central BJP’s decision to advance with the state president election reflects a strategic focus on leadership renewal and localisation.
