Odisha aims to build 6,500 km state highways, expressways in 2025-26: Minister
Odisha State Highways Authority aims to build 6,500 km of state highways and expressways during the 2025–26 fiscal year, informed Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan on Thursday.
As part of the upcoming developments, the first-ever expressway in Odisha — stretching between Berhampur and Jeypore — will be constructed. Harichandan emphasised that this key corridor will not only improve transport but also fuel economic activity in South Odisha.
‘These Projects to be Named after Eminent Personalities’
Addressing the media in Cuttack, Minister Harichandan said these projects will be named after eminent personalities hailing from their respective districts.
The initiative is aligned with the state government’s broader strategy of reinforcing local identity and preserving the legacy of district-level luminaries, the minister said, adding that these projects are intended to foster a sense of rootedness among citizens by commemorating notable figures through infrastructure naming.
“The Berhampur-Jeypore expressway will act as a catalyst for development in south-Odisha. Many more such projects are in the pipeline,” he said, noting that improved roadways are expected to catalyse socio-economic growth in the region.
