In a tragic incident, an Odia worker recently passed away in Oman. 

The deceased has been identified as Nityananda Mahalik, who is a resident of Anantapani village under Khantapada police station in Balasore district.

As per reports, Nityananda, employed at a hotel in Oman, succumbed to a sudden illness after being hospitalised.

Family seeks assistance for repatriation

Nityananda's bereaved family has reportedly reached out to the Balasore district collector, appealing for assistance in bringing his body back home. 

"The hotel manager called me and informed that my husband died while undergoing treatment at the hospital following an illness. He has been working there for the last 15 years. I request the district administration to help us repatriate the body," said Nityananda's wife, Anupama Mahalik.

"We have requested the collector to provide us help, and he has assured us to provide all kinds of assistance," said Birendra Kumar Rout, a villager.

The district administration, responding with urgency, has set up a special team, including the Deputy Collector, a Labour Department official, and the Block Development Officer, to oversee the repatriation process.

Government coordination for swift action

Contacts have been reportedly established with both the State and Central government bodies, particularly the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), ensuring every effort is made for a swift repatriation. The district Collector has assured that necessary procedures will be expedited to facilitate the return of Nityananda's mortal body to his native place.

Support from Chief Minister’s relief fund

In these trying times, the family has also been promised financial assistance from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. This gesture aims to provide some respite and support to Nityananda's family as they navigate this difficult period.

"We have written about the matter to the Labour Commissioner's office, and the office is taking up the matter with the Ministry of External Affairs. We have formed a special team and communicated with the manager of the hotel. Effort are underway to repatriate his body to India," said Balasore Collector Suryawanshi Mayur Vikas.
