Sources reveal that Sakil was attempting to revive his gang in Cuttack and had begun reassembling associates to plan fresh criminal activities. His sudden appearance in court took many by surprise.

The case that triggered his latest run-in with the law involves a dispute over a rented vehicle. Sheikh Tausif, from Dargha Bazaar area, had reportedly rented a car to Sakil, who refused to pay the dues.

When Tausif demanded the payment, Sakil and his aide Kadir allegedly detained him at Sakil’s house in Kesharpur, assaulted him, and even threatened to kill him if he persisted.

Following a complaint at Mangalabagh Police Station, Kadir was arrested, while Sakil went into hiding. His surrender now opens the door to further investigations into gang-related crimes in the city.

No comments were received from the local police in this regard.

Worth mentioning, the dreaded gangster Sakil, who has several cases pending against him, had previously claimed a threat to his life. Through a video on Facebook, the gangster had alleged that police were trying to kill him in a ‘fake encounter’.

The 1.03-second video was released on his Facebook page around ten months ago. He had expressed his wish to shun violence and join the mainstream.

“There is the top court and laws to provide justice to everyone. So, I request the top court to provide me justice. The law means that a culprit should be punished. But the law also says that an innocent person should not be punished. I’m innocent now. There is no case now against me. So, as a common citizen, I have all the rights for justice,” Sakil had said through his video message.

“Even the law states that society should let the criminals shun violence and join the mainstream. But it is the complete opposite here. They are trying to find and encounter me. So, I request justice through this video,” the gangster had added.
