A notorious apartment lootera was held in Bhubaneswar following a police encounter near the Balianta Canal embankment on the outskirts of the city on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.

The lootera sustained bullet injuries on his knee and has been admitted to Capital Hospital. However, four of his associates managed to give police a slip.

According to sources, the anti-dacoity enforcement team of Bhubaneswar police was conducting a routine patrol of the areas near Balianta and the Dhauli Hills when it noticed and began a pursuit of a bike-borne armed gang.

To evade arrest, the miscreants opened fire at the police and tried to escape. In return, the police authorities retaliated with controlled gunfire. During the fire exchange, one bullet hit one of the robbers in the left knee.
