Angul police on Monday arrested nine member of a dacoity in connection with a case of armed robbery at a house that was mourning the death of a person.
As per reports, the police seized a country-made pistol, three machetes, an axe, and a knife from the possession of the gang. In addition to the weapons, Angul police also recovered a car, a motorcycle, 15 mobile phones, Rs 30,000 in cash, 10 gold earrings, a mangalsutra, and a silver bracelet.
“We have seized weapons, mobile phones, cash, a car, and several other incriminating items from the nine accused members and are further investigating the case,” stated Rahul Jain, SP of Angul Police.

The arrests were made during an investigation into an armed dacoity case at Laxmipriyapur village in the Handapa area of Angul.
On November 25th, a man named Bijay Sahu lost his life after falling from a tractor near Bagdia Barsahi. Incidentally, on the same day, this accused group had allegedly entered the house of the deceased while his family members were attending to him at a hospital.
Upon their return, the gang then reportedly brandished lethal weapons carried out an armed robbery, and looted valuables, while holding the family at gunpoint.

The breakthrough comes after a similar crackdown was reported from Angul in May. At that time, at least five members of a gang were arrested by police while they were planning an armed robbery at a weekly market.
