Puri district administration on Tuesday commenced an investigation into the speedboat capsize incident at the beach involving former India captain Sourav Ganguly’s family members.
Acting swiftly, the authorities have reportedly removed the office of the La Puri company by using a bulldozer. The authorities have proclaimed that no further containers will be positioned in the vicinity, underscoring enhanced safety measures for future activities in the region.
Immediate Response and Rescue
In light of the incident, which resulted in the speedboat overturning and temporarily trapping members of former Indian cricketer Sourav Ganguly’s family under the craft, the local administration acted swiftly.
Quick intervention by private lifeguards was pivotal in rescuing Ganguly’s brother and sister-in-law, pinioned under the capsized vessel.

The Sub-Collector of Puri is spearheading an extensive inquiry into the incident, aiming to uncover the elements contributing to this accident. The probe aims to offer insights and ensure accountability, preventing the recurrence of such incidents.

As per reports, the tourists were enjoying water-based adventure activities when a large wave hit the boat, causing it to lose balance and flip over in the sea.
According to eyewitnesses and officials, the speedboat was navigating the deep waters when it overturned, leaving the occupants briefly submerged and trapped. The panic intensified as several tourists, including the Ganguly couple, struggled to regain balance in the water.
Thanks to the timely intervention of private lifeguards deployed at the beach, all four passengers were rescued safely. None of the victims required hospitalisation, though all were reportedly shaken by the incident.
