Besides, Mohapatra said that the Bhubaneswar metro rail project will not be scrapped as it is essential for urban connectivity.

He further said that the metro rail project will be extended till Cuttack city in the interest of the people.

As the previous BJD government had planned the metro rail service only up to Trisulia, the minister said, "What will people do by traveling only up to Trisulia? The route must be extended to Cuttack to serve its actual purpose."

He also informed that a dedicated committee is currently conducting a detailed study of the project and based on their findings, the government will consider expanding the metro rail project’s reach beyond its originally proposed limits by the previous government.

Meanwhile, with these developments, the government aims to enhance urban transportation and provide seamless connectivity between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, ensuring a comprehensive and sustainable metro network for the future.
