Unidentified miscreants looted gold ornaments from a jeweller near Machada area in Balasore district. The incident occurred on Saturday evening. As per initial reports, the jewellery shop owner Kanhu Charan Kamila of Naikudi village was returning home after closing his shop at Patrajhada area when five bike-borne miscreants intercepted him.
"I had closed my shop at around 7:30 pm yesterday when the miscreants intercepted me. The miscreants caught my shirt from behind and I fell down from the bike. They also fired at me, but the bullet did not hit me," alleged Kanhu.
According to Kanhu, the miscreants looted gold and silver ornaments worth around Rs 6 to 7 lakh.
Kanhu had kept all the ornaments in the storage box of his motorcycle. It appears that the miscreants had information about his movement and committed the crime after getting an opportunity yesterday.
On getting information, police reached the spot and seized an empty bullet shell from the spot. Further investigation in connection with the loot has started.
