A minor girl was allegedly gang-raped by three persons, including two juveniles. The incident occurred in the Brahmani Tarang area of Rourkela a few days ago but was brought to the attention of the police on Monday.
A formal complaint by her family prompted swift action from the police, who nabbed three accused individuals, all of whom have been taken into custody in connection with the case.
Victim Taken on Pretext of Ride, Later Assaulted
According to police sources, the incident occurred a few days ago when the victim, a minor girl, was invited for a scooter ride by a youth known to her. The girl, who resides in the jurisdiction of Brahmani Tarang police station, was taken to the Kansbahal area under Rajgangpur police limits.
There, allegedly with the help of two accomplices, the youth sexually assaulted the girl late at night. After the assault, the girl was reportedly dropped off near a relative’s residence.
Case Registered After Family Learns of Incident
The victim remained under psychological stress following the incident. Her family became aware of the assault only later, after which they approached the Kansbahal outpost under Rajgangpur police station on Monday to lodge a formal complaint.
Acting on the complaint, the Kansbahal police launched an immediate investigation and registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and POCSO Act.
Arrests Within 24 Hours; One Adult, Two Juveniles Held
Within 24 hours of the FIR, police nabbed all three accused. The primary accused is a 19-year-old youth from the Chungimati area under Rajgangpur police station. The other two accused are juveniles, both residents of the same locality, police sources confirmed.
While the adult accused was produced before a local court on Monday, the two minors were sent to a juvenile correctional facility. All three are residents of the Rajgangpur police station jurisdiction, said reports.
As of the last reports, police officials have not issued any formal press statement on the matter. Investigations are ongoing, and further legal proceedings are expected in the coming days.
