Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi assured the residents of Sundargarh on Thursday that no government decisions will be made against their wishes. The CM said this over a recent demand to merge the district with North Odisha.
Taking to ‘X’ platform, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) stated, “The people of Sundargarh have been blessing us for many years and we respect their sentiments. Therefore, the government will not take any steps against the wishes of the people of Sundargarh. The State government is committed to the overall development of Sundargarh district.”

Emphasising the Government's dedication to the progress of the Sundargarh district, the Chief Minister acknowledged the enduring support of the local population.
During the Zero Hour in the Legislative Assembly, the matter of merging Sundargarh with northern Odisha was raised by Sundargarh BJD MLA Jogesh Kumar Singh. The legislator sought clarification from the minister concerned on the issue.

“We are the residents of Western Odisha and are traditionally & culturally intertwined with it. Hence, we request the Chief Minister to withdraw his statement. We cannot join North Odisha’s culture and tradition,” MLA Jogesh Singh said in a presser.
“If the Chief Minister is keen on the development of Sundargarh, he can roll out special packages for the district. We are not opposed to development,” the MLA asserted.
