In an unfortunate incident, the bodies of a man and his daughter were found inside a locked flat at Snehalata Apartments, located at Badambadi in Cuttack on Friday.

While the body of the father, identified as a 60-year-old Manas Ranjan Das, was found hanging, the body of the daughter was found lying on the bed. The duo had been residing in this rented accommodation for the past two years.

Circumstances under investigation

As the cause of death remains unknown, preliminary reports hint at possible financial distress behind these tragic events. However, there has been no official confirmation regarding the circumstances leading to their deaths.

Local police have reportedly filed a case of unnatural death corresponding to the incident. Investigations are ongoing to establish further details and bring clarity to this unfortunate case.

“We have launched an investigation in connection with the case. Detailed information about the incident could be revealed only after the investigation,” said Cuttack Zone-6 ACP Ashok Kumar Giri.

“I don’t know how this thing happened. I reside in Bhubaneswar. After getting a phone call from the police about the incident, I came here. I had the last contact with them through a telephonic call some two and a half years back. He had told me that they are living in Keonjhar. However, I just came to know today that they were staying in Cuttack,” said the deceased man’s sister Sushmita Das.

“The deceased’s wife died when the daughter was only 23 days old. He was working in a company in Bhubaneswar,” said Vivek Nanda, a friend of the deceased.

“Manas babu was a silent person. He doesn’t talk much with anybody. He often confines himself to his room most of the time,” said Subrat Nanda, a resident of the apartment.
