IAS Hemanta Sharma promoted to Additional Chief Secretary

The Odisha State Government announced the promotion of Hemanta Sharma, a 1995-batch IAS officer, to the rank of Additional Chief Secretary on Wednesday. Further, 1994-batch IAS officer Ranjana Chopra was elevated to a proforma promotion to the Apex Grade (Level-17 of the Pay Matrix).

The promotions were announced through a notification issued by the state government. It stated that IAS Hemanta Sharma, currently serving as the Principal Secretary in the Department of Industries, has been elevated to the Apex Grade (Level-17 of the Pay Matrix) and appointed as Additional Chief Secretary. However, he will continue in his current role until further orders.

Earlier in August 2024, the Odisha government had effected a major IAS reshuffle under which Hemanta Sharma was appointed as the Principal Secretary of the Energy Department. Bishnupada Sethi has been given charge as Principal Secretary, ST & SC Development, Minorities and Backward Classes Welfare department.
