A case of love, betrayal, and deceit has surfaced in Odisha’s Balasore district, centering around the son of Bishnupriya alias Sanjay Bugudi, BJD Zilla Parishad member of Basta ward-14 zone. The matter came to the fore after the victim girl brought the allegations and lodged a complaint with Baliapal police.
In her complaint, the young woman claimed to be romantically involved with Bugudi’s son who allegedly ‘raped’ her several times on the false promise of marriage and subsequently deceived her.
Allegations of False Marriage Promises
According to sources, the victim was a dialysis technician student in 2021. She had been for a practical exam to an institute in Angul where she met Jagannath, the son of the Zilla Parishad from Brahmanda village in Basta block.
Slowly, they developed a friendship that soon blossomed into love. Soon, Jagannath coerced her into physical intimacy on the pretext of marriage. He even introduced her to his family to win her confidence and continued to exploit her physically and financially.
“He took me to a beach on some pretext and coerced me into a physical relationship. When I cried, he promised to marry me. He even introduced me to his family to gain my confidence. Now, he is refusing to marry me,” the victim alleged.
Financial Allegations
Alongside the broken matrimonial promise, the woman has alleged financial exploitation, claiming that Jagannath borrowed a substantial sum from her during her relationship and has not repaid it. The situation escalated after he allegedly reneged on the marriage proposal, prompting her to seek recourse through a police report.
“She was studying in Keonjhar and later went for training in Angul. There, she fell in love with the boy. I was initially reluctant as the boy was from a different caste. But, I want justice for my daughter,” claimed the victim’s father.
Family Denial
In contrast, the accused's father claimed that the marriage proposal did not proceed due to withdrawal by the woman's family and denied any misconduct by his son. Police have initiated an investigation to corroborate the presented claims.
“This is completely false. We had approached her family for marriage. Their family had also come to our home. But, they later rejected the marriage proposal,” alleged the accused’s father.
