In a fresh case of burglary that has jolted the state capital, unidentified miscreants struck government quarters in Unit-3 area of Bhubaneswar late Monday night, escaping with gold ornaments worth over Rs 1 lakh and a significant amount of cash.

As per sources, the incident took place when the occupants were away from home for barely two hours, leaving behind an unguarded premise that became a soft target.

Police sources verified that the miscreants broke open the main door, entered the quarter under Kharavela Nagar police limits, and ransacked the house, stealing valuables with speed and precision, leading authorities to suspect that it was a targeted and pre-planned crime.

The entire act was captured on CCTV, which reportedly showed three individuals forcing entry and carrying out the loot inside the house.

Recurring Burglaries Raise Alarm Ahead of Festivals

In a similar incident during Raja celebrations last week, unidentified criminals broke into a residence in Niladri Vihar, decamping with gold jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh while the family was away in Puri.

The burglars broke a window to enter the house and carried out the theft. Residents discovered the burglary only after returning and alerted the local police.

These back-to-back heists have stirred concerns over rising thefts during holidays and festive periods, when homes often remain unoccupied.
