Even though several days have passed since the alleged loot incident from a police officer's quarters, located in front of Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi’s residence, the Commissionerate Police is yet to arrest the accused. Questions are being raised over the 'snail-pace' investigation process when a crime happened in front of the residence of the State's CM.
Throwing an open challenge to the police, some unidentified miscreants allegedly looted gold jewellery and other valuables from a type 2 quarters-29/4 in the Unit III Police Colony which is located just 100 meters away from CM Majhi’s official residence on 5th September.
The goons allegedly decamped with gold jewellery worth Rs 5 lakh, antique coins, cash, a costly watch and four hard discs after breaking open the quarters of police sub-inspector Ramakanta Pradhan who was away on training.
In between three days have passed but police are yet to make any headway in the case.
“A day after the loot, a scientific team visited our quarters and collected some evidence. However, no arrest has been made so far. Despite being a tight security area due to CM’s official residence, the miscreants did not bother and looted a police officer’s house. If this can happen, possibilities of theft from CM’s residence cannot be ruled out,” said Ranjit Kumar Pradhan, son of Police SI Ramakant.
Meanwhile, panic gripped the residents of the police colony after the broad daylight robbery. If miscreants can loot from a police officer quarters in a posh area throwing an open challenge to the police, how a common man can feel secure, locals questioned.
“Most of the occupants of the quarters are police. Despite being a tight security area, miscreants have managed to loot a police officer’s house in broad daylight. We are not feeling safe,” said Sandhyarani Dakua, a resident of Unit III police colony.
