In an official directive issued by the port administration on Saturday, no employee will be allowed to remain on leave until further notice. This decision has been taken as a precautionary measure, keeping in view the ongoing tense situation between India and Pakistan and the potential threat to key national infrastructures.

Sources within the Paradip Port Trust (PPT) confirmed that the instruction is applicable to everyone associated with port operations. This includes marine staff, security personnel, dock workers, technical engineers, logistics teams, and support staff. The administration emphasized the need for uninterrupted operations and maximum preparedness at all times during this period of heightened sensitivity.

Security Drill Conducted

Adding to the seriousness of the situation, sirens were heard within the port's restricted zones earlier today. The alarm was part of a full-scale preparedness drill conducted to evaluate emergency response mechanisms. The South Oil Jetty area, one of the most strategically sensitive points of the port, along with the CISF Fire Wing Station, was the focal points of this mock drill. Port fire services, security teams, and emergency handling units participated in the exercise to test real-time reaction capabilities.

Officials stated that these drills are being conducted to ensure that the port and its security apparatus are fully prepared to respond in the event of any external threat or emergency. The fire drill included simulation of fire breakout scenarios, evacuation procedures, and immediate response measures by the CISF and internal safety departments.

Paradip Port, one of India’s most crucial maritime gateways on the eastern coast, handles millions of tonnes of cargo every year, including petroleum products, coal, iron ore, and fertilizers. Given its strategic importance, any disruption to its operations can have wide-ranging economic and national security implications.

Senior port officials reassured the public and stakeholders that the port is fully functional and all operations are continuing smoothly.

“There is no cause for panic. This is a part of standard security protocol during times of increased national alert. We are taking every possible step to ensure preparedness,” a spokesperson for the port stated.

In coordination with central and state agencies, the Paradip Port Authority has also increased surveillance and restricted access in certain sensitive areas within the port premises. Identity checks, vehicle screening, and cargo monitoring have been intensified to prevent any unauthorized movement.

With the broader national focus shifting towards enhanced defense readiness and critical infrastructure security, Paradip Port is aligning itself with government directives to remain vigilant and responsive. The port authorities have also advised all associated private contractors and service providers to be on high alert and cooperate with ongoing security procedures.

The situation remains under control, but officials remain watchful and committed to ensuring the safety and operational stability of the port. Further decisions will be made based on central advisories and intelligence inputs.
