An empty state government-run LAccMI passenger bus crashed into the walls of a flyover and was left dangling by its sides on Monday in Odisha’s Balasore.
The accident occurred near Fakir Mohan Square in the city. Fortunately, no passengers were on board, which helped avert a major tragedy.
As per reports, the bus met with an accident while travelling from a service center to the bus stand. At about 10 pm on Monday night, the vehicle suddenly veered off course and hit the flyover walls following which it remained hanging by its sides for quite a long period of time. The driver reportedly fled the scene.

“I noticed sparks and fire coming off electricity lines outside my shop and upon checking found the bus hanging from the overbridge,” stated an eyewitness.
Police from the Sahadevkhuntha area of Balasore reached the spot along with other authorities and began a rescue operation for the precariously hanging bus. As of now, driver negligence is suspected to be the reason behind the crash.
“The road was fairly empty at the time of the accident and thus, I suspect that there may be a fault on the driver’s part. He has switched his phone off but we are trying to nab and hand him over to the police,” stated Tirupati Achari, manager of Balasore area LAccMI buses.
Meanwhile, district collector, Suryanvanshi Mayur Bikash stated that a proper reason will be determined only after a thorough investigation.
“A complete review and inquiry will be conducted to ascertain if the accident happened due to any mechanical failure or the driver’s negligence,” he said.

Police and RTO officials had lifted the bus back up on the road and efforts were on to nab the driver, as per the last reports.
