According to sources, the Health Minister has officially announced the establishment of a medical college and hospital in Kendrapara district, addressing a long-standing demand from the local population.

During his visit to the district headquarters hospital (DHH), the Minister emphasised that the project is part of the Odisha Government’s top 21 agenda items. Out of 21 promises made in the Sankalp Patra (election manifesto), at least 11 have been fulfilled in a year, he stated.

Mahaling assured the people that this long-overdue institution will soon become a reality. He also took a jab at the Opposition, questioning why no medical college had been set up in Kendrapara by the previous (BJD-led) government over the last 24 years, despite repeated demands and political representations.

Earlier in the day, the Health Minister inaugurated Ayushman Arogya Mandirs at Ameipal and Jadupur in the Mahakalpada block of the district. These health centers aim to bring primary care closer to rural populations and are part of the State’s ongoing healthcare outreach.

During a review meeting held at the district Circuit House, Mahaling assessed the current state of health services across Kendrapara and assured that further improvements would be made in line with the government’s broader health mission.

“Through Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, we have targeted to provide 120 medicines for non-communicable diseases. People will get the medicines at their respective panchayats. It is among the top 21 agendas of the government to set up medical colleges in each district,” the Health Minister said while briefing to mediapersons.

“In this process, the government is committed to setting up a medical college in Kendrapara district too,” Minister Mahaling added.
