Nayagarh Police arrested four individuals on Friday, including two prime accused and two aides, in connection with the Rajpatana Indian Bank robbery. The arrests were made under the Superintendent of Police (SP)’s supervision, with over Rs 20 lakh in cash and weapons recovered during coordinated raids.

According to sources, in a major breakthrough, police have arrested four persons involved in the armed robbery at Indian Bank in Rajpatana of Nayagarh, which occurred on Wednesday afternoon. Six dacoits had stormed the Mandhatapur branch, escaping with over Rs 27 lakh in cash and gold ornaments at gunpoint.
Under the direct supervision of the SP, Sadar police conducted a series of raids at multiple locations. Two of the arrested, Sagar Maharana from Jagatsinghpur and Pramod Nayak from Dasapalla locality, are seasoned criminals with at least 17 cases pending across different police stations in the State against the history-sheeters.
In addition to the two main suspects, police also arrested Kartik Barad from Lathipada and Purnachandra Prusty, husband of the former sarpanch of Jemadeipur Patana, for allegedly aiding the robbers. Authorities recovered Rs 20.86 lakh in cash, a handmade firearm, live ammunition, a motorcycle, and several mobile phones during the operation.
The SP confirmed that four other suspects involved in the robbery are still on the run but will be apprehended shortly. Swift action by the police has brought relief to the local community and reaffirmed confidence in the police response to rising criminal activity.
“We have formed three police teams under the supervision of Nayagarh SDPO to nab the four accused persons who are absconding. The arrested are involved in around 20 criminal cases. The gang is active in several districts,” Nayagarh SP S. Susree said in a presser.
