History of Barabati Stadium:

Barabati Stadium, established in 1958 by the Odisha Cricket Association, is one of India's oldest sports venues. Named after the adjacent Barabati Fort, the stadium hosted its first international ODI in 1982 which was between India and England. India defeated England by five wickets.

The stadium, which currently has a seating capacity of around 45,000, hosted its first Test match in 1987 (India vs Sri Lanka) apart from hosting World Cup matches in 1987 and 1996.

Barabati Stadium Pitch Condition:

Barabati is known for its variable pitch conditions, with often favouring spinners like Narendra Hirwani, Maninder Singh and Anil Kumble. Hirwani’s 6 for 59 runs against New Zealand's only innings during the 1995–96 Test match at Barabati Stadium is a testament to the pitch's assistance to spinners.
