In a major crackdown on illegal gambling, the Odisha police have raided a gambling den operating in the dense forest near Patadhar village under Jagannathprasad police limits in the Bhanjanagar subdivision of Ganjam district. Acting on a tip-off, the police conducted a swift raid and arrested 19 individuals allegedly involved in the illegal activity.
According to reports, the gambling racket had been operating secretly in the jungle area near Bidipur village for the past two months. The secluded location made it difficult for law enforcement to detect and intervene until now.
During the raid, police recovered a substantial amount of cash amounting to Rs 4 lakh, along with two cars and five motorcycles believed to have been used by the gamblers. All seized items are now in police custody, and the accused are being interrogated for further leads.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of senior officers from the Jagannathprasad police station, who stated that they had been tracking the illegal activity for several weeks based on local intelligence.
Authorities suspect that the gambling den may be linked to a larger network operating across neighboring regions. Further investigation is underway to uncover other possible locations and individuals involved in the racket.
The successful raid has been lauded by local residents, many of whom expressed concern over the rising trend of such illegal activities in forested and remote areas. Police have assured continued vigilance and appealed to the public to report any suspicious gatherings or gambling-related activities in their vicinity.
This operation highlights the Odisha Police’s commitment to curbing unlawful gambling and maintaining law and order in rural and sensitive areas.
