The Indira Gandhi National Open University’s (IGNOU) MBA study materials in Odia were unveiled at a ceremony in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday, bringing it in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
Further, the initiative is part of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE’s) e-Kumbh project, which stands for ‘Knowledge Unleashed in Multiple Bharatiya Languages.’ Under this initiative, AICTE aims to translate course programs and technical books into multiple Indian languages, including Odia, to make education more accessible.
The launch event took place in the presence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, T G Sitharam, Chairman of AICTE, Uma Kanjilal, Vice-Chancellor of IGNOU, and Mrutyunjay Behera, Economic Advisor and Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Education.
Odisha government’s Minister of Higher Education, Suryabanshi Suraj and Sampad Chandra Swain, Minister of State for Skill Development, Technical Education and Industries, also graced the occasion.
The partnership between AICTE and IGNOU for promoting education in regional languages further advances a key aspect of the NEP that aims to advance professional education through linguistic diversification.
Notably, the launch event of IGNOU study materials in Odia came close after the state government recently announced its plans to implement NEP 2020 from the academic year 2025-26.
Meanwhile, a three-day National Workshop discussing the implementation of NEP 2020 and seeking its streamlining in Odisha is also underway and will continue until this evening after having begun on January 21.
