Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, on Sunday, directed officials to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) to transform the iconic Kalinga Studio in Bhubaneswar into a fully self-contained, state-of-the-art film production complex.

The announcement came during the Chief Minister’s visit to the studio, where he reviewed the ongoing development work.

Established in 1980, Kalinga Studio once held the distinction of being the only well-equipped film studio in Eastern India. However, over time, the lack of modern infrastructure and professional-grade equipment led to a decline in its prominence.

With the new government taking charge, CM Majhi has placed a renewed emphasis on revitalising the historic site, amid long-standing demands from several quarters for the same.

Key Facilities Already Developed

Sources stated that a first phase of redevelopment, undertaken by the Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (IDCO), has already been completed.

Accordingly, the studio now boasts a tech building, an entrance plaza, indoor shooting zones, ‘Kalinga Movie Magic’ attractions, an avenue land, a village area setup, an iconic landmark, Snow World, a community hall, bamboo structures, water bodies, and landscaped green areas.

Chief Minister Majhi emphasised the need for modern production infrastructure to support the growth of Odia cinema. “Several facilities are being revamped simultaneously. A few essential sets, such as an airport, are being developed. I have already instructed concerned officials to expedite the work,” said the CM.
