At a special function held at New Delhi, Sujeet Kumar joined the BJP in presence of senior leaders of the party.

“Today, I have resigned from the membership of Rajya Sabha. I was elected to Rajya Sabha in 2020 from BJD. I thank former Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik for sending me to Rajya Sabha. It is a happy day for me as I am getting involved with a major national party. I have been inspired by the vision of Vikshit Bharat and Odisha. I congratulate the entire BJP team,” said Sujeet Kumar.

Sujeet Kumar further said, “I believe in nation first policy and I stayed in abroad for a long time; I wanted to work for the KBK region and the nation. Hence, I quitted BJD as the development which would have happened in Kalahandi, it did not happen due to corruption by district BJD leaders and from outside. I tried to bring it to the notice of senior leaders, it was not possible.”

"In the last one and half years, BJD had neglected me which was not the case earlier. Attempts were made to systematically sideline me. Some leaders said that big leaders of the party were unhappy as they wanted me to touch their feet and follow their instructions. I have no problem in touching anyone’s feet if he/she is elder to me. I was asked to do slavery for such leaders in BJD. It was for this reason that I was sidelined,” alleged Sujeet.

“Nobody directly threatened me, but I was getting indication from other leaders,” the BJP leader added.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said, “A senior leader from Odisha, who was representing in the Upper House due to his oratory skills and left a mark with his experience, has joined the BJP. Sujeet Kumar has joined the BJP after getting influenced by Prime Minister Modi’s vision. Be it agriculture, backward classes and welfare of poor, Sujeet Kumar is keen on taking up several activities in his district.
