A recruitment drive for Home Guard positions in Ganjam district turned tragic when an aspirant collapsed and later died during the physical test at the Reserve Police Ground in Chhatrapur on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Shibaram Pradhan from Tulasi Palli under Tarasingh police station limits.
Sudden Collapse During Physical Test
As per procedure, a running test was being conducted for the Home Guard post on the day of the incident. While participating in the run, Shibaram suddenly fell ill and collapsed midway, sending shockwaves across the ground.

Rushed to Hospital
Officials and fellow candidates immediately rushed him to Chhatrapur Community Health Centre (CHC) for emergency treatment. However, as his condition deteriorated, doctors referred him to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. Despite medical efforts, Shibaram sadly passed away while undergoing treatment.
Community in Mourning
The news of his untimely demise has cast a pall of gloom over his native village and among fellow aspirants. Many have expressed shock that a life was lost during a recruitment process intended to provide employment and service to society.
