In a startling incident, a young woman alleged that she was harassed and that her mobile was snatched by an unknown youth late Tuesday evening at Kharavela Nagar in Bhubaneswar, prompting police action and raising fresh concerns about women’s safety in the capital city.
Sources reported that the incident took place around 8:30 pm when the woman was walking alone from Forest Park to AG Square. According to her complaint filed at the Capital Police Station, a man suddenly approached her and forcibly snatched her mobile phone.
The accused allegedly went further and began misbehaving with her, attempting to physically harass her during the encounter.
Startled and frightened, the woman began screaming for help, drawing the attention of nearby locals. Responding quickly, several people rushed to the spot and intervened, managing to rescue her from the alleged attacker. The youth reportedly identified himself as Dillip Dalai, said reports.
Following the intervention, the woman immediately approached the Capital Police Station and lodged a formal complaint.
Acting on her report, police detained the accused on the same night. A case has been registered and legal proceedings have been initiated.

According to police officials, the accused will be produced before the court after initial interrogation and completion of procedural formalities.
Another Harassment Case Reported in Puri
The Bhubaneswar incident emerged just one day after another troubling case in Puri, where three sisters were harassed and robbed by a group of youths near a dimly lit stretch of road close to a bus parking zone.
The girls were returning home after visiting the Jagannath Temple when they were intercepted by six youths who forcibly took their gold chains and handbags while also misbehaving with them.
The back-to-back incidents in Bhubaneswar and Puri have come at a time when Odisha is grappling with a surge in crimes against women and tragedies such as the FM College self-immolation bid and a minor girl being set on fire in the Balanga area in Puri district.
