With the trough in westerlies now running roughly between 7.6 and 9.4 Km above mean sea level, hailstorm, thunderstorm with lightning, and gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph are very likely to occur in several Odisha districts during April 30 and May 1, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) regional centre forecasted on Wednesday.

In its mid-day bulletin, the IMD stated, “People are advised to keep watch on the weather and take safe shelter during the thunderstorm activity to protect themselves from lightning and follow traffic advisories in urban areas. Also, harvesting of crops may be regulated judicially, and farmers are advised to use hail nets to protect vegetables and crops from hail.”
Temperature Forecast: No large change is likely in the Maximum (day) temperature during the next three days, and thereafter a gradual rise by 2°C-4°C is expected during the subsequent four days over the districts of Odisha.

Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at many places over the districts of South Odisha, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Angul, Dhenkanal, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur and at a few places over the rest districts of Odisha.
Orange Warning: (Be Prepared)- Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph and hailstorm, heavy rainfall are very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Nuapada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar.
Yellow Warning: (Be Aware)- Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Subarnapur, Boudh, Bargarh, and Nabarangpur.
For Thursday (Valid from 0830 hrs IST of 01.05.2025 to 0830 hrs IST of 02.05.2025)
Light to moderate rain or thundershower is very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at many places over the districts of Odisha.
Orange Warning: (Be Prepared)- Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph and hailstorm, heavy rainfall are very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, and Jajpur.
Yellow Warning: (Be Aware)- Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph, heavy rainfall are very likely to occur in the afternoon/evening hours at one or two places over the districts of Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sambalpur, Boudh, Subarnapur, Bolangir, and Bargarh.
