The investigation into the shocking gangrape incident at Gopalpur sea beach in Ganjam intensified as the Crime Branch launched its probe from various angles.

Survivor’s Male Friend Questioned

The officials of the investigating agency on Thursday extensively interrogated the male friend of the survivor at Gopalpur Police Station. Sources said that the questioning lasted for over an hour, focusing on multiple aspects of the incident to piece together a clearer timeline and motive.

The male companion, who was with the victim at the time of the incident, was reportedly questioned from various perspectives before being allowed to leave.

After the marathon session, the Crime Branch team left Gopalpur police station to pursue other leads.

Earlier on Wednesday, senior Crime Branch officers, including the IG, visited the crime scene and conducted a detailed inspection and review of evidence.

All About The Case

Notably, a 20-year-old woman was raped allegedly by three of a 10-member gang late Sunday evening on the beach.

Odisha DGP YB Khurania declared the incident a ‘Red Flag' case and handed its investigation to the CID Crime Branch. Earlier, personnel of the Gopalpur police station, probing into the incident, arrested the 10 accused, including four minors.

The six adults, including the prime accused, were produced at the court of Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC)- Rural on Tuesday night, and it remanded them to judicial custody.

Similarly, the four minor accused, also charged under the same offence, were sent to juvenile homes.
